This week we had a couple of days diving in the beautiful West Wales region. A couple of days in perfect weather, enjoying the clear waters, blue skies and amazing abundance of life.
The boat has been performing well and is now in its new home within Milford Haven, however we decided to dive around Skomer as its not an area I have dived much in the past.
Its a forty minute boat trip around the Marloes Peninsula for us, but the journey was great with clear blue skies as far as the eye could see. The journey through the notorious Jack Sound was as straightforward as we were going to get.
We dived several little bays around the north facing side of Skomer Island and the Peninsula, it was fantastic.
Lots of little things to see including Spider Crabs, Lobsters, Sea Cucumbers, Anemones, Urchins, Sponges and Snails. The area is in the Skomer Marine Protection Zone, as such its a no take zone and divers are under scrutiny whilst diving there – we had a friendly visit from the fisheries patrol operating in the area, but don’t let that put you off from visiting as there is an abundance of life to be seen. As such, I highly recommend diving the area for the amazing diving it offers, but don’t be fooled into thinking that you could take anything from it as you wont be able to.
Following our diving we took a spin around North Haven on the Island of Skomer where there was an abundance of Puffins and Seals – absolutely beautiful.
A lovely couple of days diving in one of my favorite parts of the UK.
